It was fun in the sun as well-known jockeys battled it out over a show-jumping course and crowds flocked to watch the entertainment at Finmere Show in 1988. Events included a display of vintage and veteran vehicles, terrier and lurcher racing and motorcycle grass-track racing. Former champion jockey Bob Champion is pictured trying a different kind of horsepower – at the wheel of Michael Edwards’s 1910 Hotchkiss.
TV personality Angela Rippon was a guest at Finmere Show in 1981. She is pictured chatting to show secretary Sally Haynes (seated) and to Sally’s father, Jim, the show president.
Six schools in the area teamed up for a series of craft workshops in 1990. Among the subjects were batik, collage, calligraphy, mask-making and printing. In a batik lesson at Finmere School are, left to right, Lewis Mombrun, Alex Jones and Andrew Thompson, with Kevin Quinn and Julia Evans holding the finished product behind.
