The dragon is pictured with Janet Hartas during the event in 1981.

Other attractions included a table tennis competition, a film show featuring Superman, a treasure hunt, pram race, tug-of-war and street ceilidh with the Wheatley and Chipping Campden morris men and Wheatley Cloggies.

Visitors were also able to see local gardens, listen to Wheatley Band 81 and play Aunt Sally.

THESE were the first four swimmers in Chipping Norton’s new £27,000 heating swimming pool after it was formally opened in 1971.

The ceremony was performed by a former mayor, Frank Brown, who called the first public meeting in 1962 to test local support for the project.

For several years, he chaired the committee which raised the money to build the pool.

The mayor, Helen Latcham, said people in the town would never forget what he had done on their behalf.
