Politicians from Oxfordshire travelled to Downing Street yesterday to set out the case for the Western Conveyance Channel.
The talks — attended by deputy county council leader Rodney Rose, Oxford City Council leader Bob Price and the two Oxford MPs Nicola Blackwood and Andrew Smith — with the Prime Minister’s advisers were described as “very constructive”.
The advisers were no doubt informed that flooding costs Oxfordshire’s economy about £50m a week each time it happens.
While no firm promises of money or backing could have been expected, for this is a very costly and long-term solution, the speed with which the meeting was organised is in itself surely cause for encouragement.
