Sir — In your January 30 edition, we learnt of a £1.2bn investment in Oxfordshire’s infrastructure. In the list of improvements, there was no mention of the A420 London Road in Headington.

This is one of Oxford’s busiest but most neglected, arterial roads. The stretch between Wharton Road and Headington roundabout is a disgraceful, dangerous, clapped-out mess.

Drivers and cyclists dodge lanes to avoid ruinous potholes. Pedestrians are showered with thrown-up road chippings, as well as water from resident road lakes. Many bus drivers avoid using the rutted and collapsing bus lanes.

Many people have passed on defect reports to the county council. Check for yourself at: http://fixmystreet.oxfordshire.gov.uk and add your own report.

Unfortunately, the prevailing county council solution is to provide infrequent road inspections followed by piecemeal pothole patching. It’s not good enough.

The agreed resurfacing scheme needs to be implemented now. Unfortunately, I do not anticipate a positive rapid response. Perhaps it would help if fellow readers lobbied their councillors and complained to the county council.
