Sir – Has Oxford City Council gone completely mad? After the parking disaster in St Clements, how can they even begin to contemplate building over another car park and in an area where parking is now often very difficult.

Your report (January 9) quotes the council as saying that sufficient parking will be retained. Will the council please explain now how they arrived at this obviously wrong conclusion?

I strongly recommend that all work on this proposal should be halted until the parking problem has been thoroughly examined and resolved, otherwise this project will get a life of its own and be carried through regardless of all logic and common sense.
