Sir – Oxford City Council’s quest for a low- emission zone that would apply to all traffic, or a cleaner greener Oxford (Report, January 9) could be achieved simply by introducing trams as the primary system of transport for the city.
Many contributors to these pages support a tram system for Oxford, and as part of the strategic future transport plan.
We are coming out of the longest recession ever, and it is time to invest in the future by transforming our city by improving transport and infrastructure, thus creating jobs and prosperity.
It would be folly to waste money with short-term, interim schemes that only partially solve our problems, it is time to bite the bullet and make our world-renowned city a pleasure to work in and enjoy for all citizens.
