Sir – We could not agree more with your correspondent, Mr O’Halloran (January 2), that inconsiderate cyclists are a menace.
Our motivation for trying to get the towpath north of Walton Well Road resurfaced (and made wider) is not just for the cyclists that we hope will use it considerately but for everyone, especially people pushing buggies and people who are not so steady on their feet and trip on the ridges.
We recently arranged for three signs to be placed on the section of towpath south of Walton Well Road, which emphasise that pedestrians have priority and that cyclists need to slow down and be considerate. We do hope that walkers, as well as cyclists, will enjoy the improved surface and that Mr O’Halloran will happily continue to “wander in wonder” along our beautiful canal.
