Sir – Following leaflets from the Labour Party and your recent reports about the plan to move Witney’s post office, it seems quite clear that postal services need to move to a better premises other than WH Smith in the Woolgate Centre, and the current staff should remain in place and be paid for with the post office subsidy.
I was involved two or three years ago, looking into the possibility of setting up a Witney Credit Union as well, and, despite the problems with the legislation and trying to fund the 25 per cent bad debt provision required to pay for loans defaults, I am pleased to advise that I have two potential premises available in Witney, prime locations that can accommodate both the credit union and post office to save money and I have a strategy to fund both.
This will require support from Witney residents. I hope interested parties will contact me as soon as possible. It will need the support of our MP David Cameron and district councillor Duncan Enright.
James Robertshaw, Witney
