Sir – I am writing to say how wonderful we think the tree and other Christmas decorations in Witney are this year.
There has been a lot in the national press about ‘Christmas twigs’ and certainly last year’s Witney tree would qualify as such (not to mention that awful fence around it!), but this year’s has to be one of the best public trees we have ever seen: tall, lovely decorations and smothered in lights (and not that horrible cold light, either!).
The green and red picket fence around it provides safety whilst looking festive at the same time. The snowball lights on the High Street really ‘work’ and look classy, and the snowflakes projected on the Corn Exchange and Langdale Hall add a nice, effective modern touch.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas Fayre; just a shame that the rain didn’t hold off. Congratulations and thanks to all involved.
Fiona Herron, Witney
