Thame Women’s Institute held a dinner in Thame United clubhouse to mark its 50th anniversary in 1971. Flowers were presented to Frances Mott, 71, the only surviving founder member, and oldest member Louisa Howell, 91. The 3rd Thame Guides march out of the parish church after having their flag dedicated by the vicar, the Rev Chris Neil, in 1986. The girls bought the flag after raising £70, mainly by sponsored silences. Three years earlier, the company was about to be disbanded, but a recruitment drive increased its strength to 30.
There was brisk business at a sale at the Methodist Church in 1969, with visitors flocking to snap up a bargain at the numerous stalls. Among the early arrivals were Julie, Anita and Claire Webb, with their friend, Katie Smith.
