PUPILS returned to school after the Christmas holidays to find a letter from Prime Minister Edward Heath waiting for them.
The junior class at Garford and Frilford School, near Abingdon, were busy making Christmas cards when one of them had the idea of sending one to Mr Heath.
The oldest boy in the class, 11-year-old Andrew Hingley, wrote a short note and sent it to Mr Heath with a batch of cards.
When the pupils went back to school in early January 1972, a letter of thanks from Mr Heath’s secretary was there wishing them a Happy New Year.
