A BIN set on fire at the base of an Abingdon multi-storey car park destroyed electrical equipment and caused £8,000 worth of damage, it has emerged.
The lift and lighting on levels two and three of the Charter car park were still not working on Wednesday following the blaze in the early hours of Saturday, November 9.
Vale of White Horse District Council spokesman Gavin Walton said workers had replaced lighting and carried out re-wiring work to restore lighting to the stairs and most of the building.
But he said the lift and all lighting should be fixed by the end of the week.
He said: “The damage caused by the fire is expected to cost around £8,000 to repair. This work has included replacing lighting, fittings, electrical equipment and signage, as well as carrying out necessary jet washing and repainting.”
He added: “We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while the work was taking place.”
