BACK in August I wrote a letter complaining about Oxfordshire County Council giving £10m to BT so as to improve broadband in Oxfordshire while BT were spending millions on their new television sports channels and that they were wrong to do so. In fact I intimated that BT were so rich that they should spend the money for improving broadband themselves.

Now, three months on, BT adds insult to injury by purchasing the rights to Champions League and Europa League football for nearly £1 billion, while here in Oxfordshire this inept council is looking for massive savings in their budget over the next few years.

Well, Mr Ian Hudspeth and fellow councillors here is a suggestion – go back to BT and say we are sorry but we need our £10m back so that we can save our children’s services, save our free bus transport for school children and also help our old age pensioners, thus reducing some of the cuts.

If they do not do this then they should consider their position on the council. In addition to this, if other councillors were to stop criticising former councillors like Mr John Power( who appears to have more sense than the current councillors) and turn their criticism on the current council, then we may make progress in trying to solve the issues facing Oxfordshire. And if a few councillors were to resign, do they need to be replaced? I think not and that would contribute to budget savings. Finally, I agree that broadband speeds need improving but not at our expense, let BT pay.
