ICE skaters will perform a fairy tale Christmas show next month.

More than 100 performers will take to the ice across one weekend and this year the show features international, national and local skating champions.

The gala show will also include 100 skaters from Oxford Junior Figure Club and the Oxford Ice Rink’s learn to skate courses.

Included on the bill is 2010 British champion David Richardson, Olympics Team GB members Josh Whidbourne and Charlotte Aiken, 1999 British Ladies Champion Tammy Sear-Watkins and Charlotte Davis who has been skating at Oxford Ice Rink in Oxpens Road since she was 10.

John Harris, general manager of the Rink, said: “This year's show should be the best ever; in addition to some great international quality skaters we have a hundred of our own skaters and even Marvin the Penguin taking part.

“The coaches, Ice Rink team, skaters and families have put a lot of work into making this show one of the premier Christmas events in the city and I would encourage everyone to come to the show.”

Councillor Mike Rowley, city council board member for Leisure Services, said: “This should be a great event with some of Britain's biggest ice skating stars. It is an ideal way to get into the Christmas holiday mood.”

Alicia Boyer will be performing as one of Wendy’s brothers in Peter Pan in the show. The nine-year-old from Marlborough, Wiltshire, has been skating since she was five. She said: “I really want to be in the Olympics when I am older.

“I am really, really excited about the Christmas show.

“I get up at 5am every day to practice in Oxford before I go to school.”

Ten-year-old Sinead Whipp is one of the Indians in the Peter Pan performance.

She has been skating at Oxford Ice Rink since she was four. The John Blandy Primary School pupil from Fyfield, near Abingdon, said: “I absolutely love ice skating.

“I practice five times a week and have to get up at 5.30am so I can go before school.”

The show is produced by Oxford Ice Rink and skate coaches Jane de Lange, Sue Hands and Alison Morrell. Tickets are on sale now from Oxford Ice Rink. Fairy Tales on Ice will take place on Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15.

Performances will be held twice a day at 3pm and 6pm. Advance ticket prices are: adults £9.50 and under 16s £7.50. There are also discounts for family groups.
