JUST a handful of residents took up the opportunity to see for the first time what their tower blocks could look like when they are transformed.
Oxford City Council revealed four designs for Plowman Tower in Northway as part of the consultation into the £15m scheme, yesterday.
But when the Oxford Mail attended during both sessions – between 12.30 and 2.30pm and 5.30- 8.30pm, there were only a handful of people there.
The proposals would see the buildings cladded with terracotta blocks and insulation installed to help prevent energy loss.
It is one of five projects to spruce up tower blocks in the city. The others are Evenlode Tower in Blackbird Leys, Foresters Tower in Wood Farm, Hockmore Tower in Cowley and Blackbird Leys’ Windrush Tower.
There are more than 700 people living in the buildings.
The work on the tower blocks is due to start in 2015 and will take three years to complete.
Project leader at the council Jack Bradley said: “It is a great project. It is very interesting and the residents are going to see some real change.
“They will benefit from lower energy bills and improved living standards.”
There will be a consultation today for Foresters Tower at Wood Farm Children’s Centre from 2pm to 8pm.
