WHEN Margaret Butler was swindled by her son, she was left homeless and, in the final years of her life, in a desperate situation.

As a result, she would have been well within her rights to have formed a very low opinion of humanity.

But, in a remarkable sign of good-will, she has donated £50 to help the stricken in the Philippines.

Her life might have been thrown into disarray, but she had the charity and clear-headed good sense to see that others were worse off.

If she can help, surely we all can too.
