I am writing to support the firefighters’ plea for a pension at the age of 55. It is common sense that they need to be fit for their job and this cannot extend to the age of 60.

They saved my life in 1997 and I doubt if a 60-year-old could have saved me.

Firefighters put their lives in danger rescuing others. This is no way to treat heroes.

When I was younger, I ran for Nuneaton Harriers in athletics. Now I am in my 50s, I find it difficult running for the bus but I can cycle 30 miles in a day.

So, let us support our firemen.
