ON November 1 you published a news feature about the Covered Market by Cllr Colin Cook. The intention was to publicise a report into the market’s future and invite people’s views, although no information was given about how to do this.

An attempt was made to put this right in a short notice (November 7) but the website given is no longer available.

On November 15 you published a letter from Cllrs Benjamin, Campbell, and Fooks, urging the public to comment but the web address given does not appear to lead to either the report or to any mechanism for commenting.

In spite of these difficulties, anyone who values the historic origins of the Market and its traditional character and who does not want to see this eroded any further, should be encouraged to comment on its future. The report can be found via the city council’s homepage at oxford.gov.uk; stay on the homepage and go to the blue vertical menu entitled ‘Do it online’; scroll down to ‘Current & future consultations’; click on ‘Oxford Covered Market Survey’ and there will be found links to both the report and to the questionnaire.

The closing date is November 29 but in view of the difficulties placed before the public, the council would be well advised to extend this by at least a week if it is really serious about receiving people’s views.
