OXFORD’S bike hire scheme is facing disruption after its operator went into liquidation, Oxfordshire County Council said today.
Oxonbikes was launched in June as the city’s own “Boris Bikes” pilot with 30 cycles at city hospitals, universities and Thornhill Park and Ride.
The council said today: “The OxonBikes operator [Grand Scheme Bike Share] has told us it is going into liquidation.
“We are trying to find out more information but expect service to be disrupted in the short term.
“Apologies to regular users for any inconvenience.”
Cabinet member for environment David Nimmo Smith said the council is seeking to appoint a new operator “in the next couple of days”.
