A fatal accident involving a lorry and a car yesterday morning has brought the number of people killed on Oxfordshire's roads to 62.

A man travelling in a BMW was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on a single carriageway stretch of the A420, near Tubney.

A woman and child travelling in the BMW and the lorry driver were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

A police spokesman said the woman's injuries were serious. The child and the lorry driver suffered minor injuries.

Police closed the A420 for most of the day after the collision, which happened at 10.40am as the BMW travelled south towards Swindon and was involved in a collision with the lorry coming in the other direction.

The death is the latest in a long line on Oxfordshire's roads this year, making it the second worst year since the turn of the century with two weeks still remaining.

Also yesterday, the names of two people killed on the M40 near Watlington on Sunday were confirmed.

Fourteen-year-old Raymond Lovlace died when the Mitsubishi Trojan he was travelling in overturned.

Another motorist, Gary Roberts, 40, was killed when he was struck by a lorry as he went to help Raymond and his family.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
