JUST when we thought we couldn’t fit in any more festivals, news emerges of a spectacular event lasting an impressive six days.

The Oxford City Festival is being co-organised by East Oxford-based guitar hero Mark ‘Osprey’ O’Brien, and features some of our favourite bands and artists on stages across the city.

Taking place from November 25-30, venues include the Head of the River, The Cellar, James Street Tavern, The Bear, the Jericho Tavern, the O2 Academy, The Corridor, The Marsh Harrier, The Holywell Music Room, The Wheatsheaf, The Duke’s Cut, The White Hart in Headington, and The Half Moon in St Clement’s.

Artists confirmed include Makating, Swindlestock, The Goggenhiem, Knight of Mentis, Redox, The Gee’s, Smilex, The Relationships, Brickwork Lizards, Inflatable Buddha, Beard of Destiny, Paul Morris and the Revelators, Southern Blues Fiasco, Komrad, The Dublings, Artclasssink, Empty Vessels and, of course, Osprey himself.

More details to follow.

  • Fans of blockbusting rockers Muse will be in their element this week.

Sadly, the band themselves are not coming to town, but we will be treated to the next best thing: a screening of their Rome Olympic Stadium show, from earlier this year.

The film will be shown at The Vue cinema next Thursday at 7.30pm.

The movie is the first concert film ever to be presented in 4K Ultra High Definition. To the technically-minded, that means 8.8 million pixels, four times more than standard, and ensuring an unrivalled opportunity to experience the full visual spectrum of the band’s live performance. The band’s Matthew Bellamy said: “This is the biggest tour we’ve done in terms of scale and production value, and it’s definitely the show we’re most proud of, so we’re really excited to be able to release it as the first ever ultra high definition concert film.”

Weekend has three pairs of tickets to give away for the screening.
