A strike involving staff in Oxfordshire’s main post offices planned for Monday has been called off. Last night the Communication Workers Union said the action over jobs and pay had been cancelled after talks with Royal Mail. Crown post offices are the main post offices in cities and large towns rather than the franchised post offices in stores like WHSmith. Oxfordshire’s Crown Post offices are in Witney, Oxford and Banbury.
The strikes were due to focus on plans to franchise or close more than 70 Crown sites. It was recently announced Witney’s post office would be one of these.
The CWU said it hoped to reach an agreement with Royal Mail by November 13.
