A talk where an anarchist was due to argue that Oxford University should be burnt down has been cancelled.

Ian Bone said a talk on the proposal was cancelled after Thames Valley Police said it wanted up to £10,000 to police the event.

Mr Bone – once labelled the most dangerous man in the country by the Daily Star – was due to speak at Balliol College in Broad Street on November 20.

He was to argue that “the greatest contribution we could make to equality in this country would be to burn down Oxford University.”

He had been invited by undergraduates, but the decision to cancel the talk was made following a meeting between students, college authorities and the police.
