The Emergency Multidisciplinary Unit (EMU) based at Abingdon Community Hospital has won a prestigious national award.

The unit won the best service delivery innovation category at The Guardian Healthcare Innovation Awards at the newspaper’s London headquarters on Thursday night.

Abingdon EMU was designed to meet urgent assessment and treatment needs of patients with multiple problems.

It provides medical, nursing, therapist and social care assessments and new diagnostic technology based at the unit allows test results in minutes.

The design of the unit is now being rolled out to other community hospitals across Oxfordshire.
