A DEVELOPMENT of 150 homes in Botley is due to start next month if plans are approved tomorrow.

It is the largest of three proposals for almost 300 houses in the area.

The site off Tilbury Lane would see 150 homes built by developers Persimmon Homes Ltd.

The planning application is set to be approved at Vale of White Horse District Council’s planning committee at The Abbey House in Abingdon.

Jon Regent, Persimmon Homes deputy managing director, said he was optimistic the plans, which include a number of affordable homes, would be approved.

He said: “If planning is approved, construction will commence next month, and the first properties will be available for reservation in March next year.”

About 75 of the houses are to be built in Cumnor parish and a further 75 in North Hinksey parish.

But both councils have voiced concerns about traffic around the site.

Chairman of Cumnor Parish Council, Brian Stops, said: “I am disappointed. All the traffic will have to go in and out of Fogwell Road. And the people who live on the far side of the development will have no way out other than driving a mile through the site.”

Outline planning permission approving the plans in principle had already been given.

North Hinksey Parish Council chairman Andrew Pritchard is set to air the council’s views at tomorrow’s meeting.

He said: “You can make the argument that the whole thing should be looked at again.

“I think the design is poor and the access is ridiculous. The only access along Tilbury Lane is very narrow in parts, only 14 feet wide.

“And Fogwell Road is a residential road which people have to park on.”

Another development of 136 houses in Botley’s Lime Road has been given outline planning permission. But a decision was delayed in July after concerns were raised over the designs.
