CELEBRATING a bumper apple crop, archers marked the turn of the season with a medieval theme.
About 400 people attended the first Apple Day at Cogges Manor Farm on Saturday, with the archers from the Windrush Bowmen drawing back their strings.
Visitors took along apples for pressing and enjoyed juice tasting and cider-making tips.
Windrush member Simon Clewley, 47, from Carterton, said: “It went very well. Actually, we had quite a few young girls and mums, which is unusual. It is normally the boys who are interested in swords and armour.”
The bowmen also displayed a selection of medieval swords and armour and showed how to cook apples using medieval recipes.
Farm director Colin Shone said the day will now become an annual event. He said: “It was a fantastic day. We had a bumper apple crop this year and we were celebrating all things apples.”
The farm’s orchard is less than an acre, but has more than a dozen varieties of apple trees, some of which are more than 100 years old.
