DOGS of all shapes and sizes congregated in St Giles Church with their owners for an animal service.

The third annual service at the North Oxford church on Sunday was attended by a variety of dogs and a cat.

The congregation enjoyed tea, biscuits and dog treats afterwards.

The Rev Paula Clifford, who conducted the service, said: “It was unusual in that it was almost all dogs, normally we have a bigger mix.

“They were all well behaved and seemed to get on really well.

“People came from all over, not just St Giles. There is a need for this sort of thing. It recognises people’s affection for their animals.”

The service was organised to coincide with the feast day of St Francis of Assisi on October 4, who was known for his love of animals.
