PLANS for new accommodation and other buildings at St Cross College have won the support of planners.
The college wants to build 53 new student rooms along with a lecture theatre, library and seminar rooms.
Now officers have recommended that councillors on the west area planning committee approve the proposal when they meet tonight.
The recommendation comes despite the fact concerns were raised by residents, along with the Victorian Society, Oxford Preservation Trust and the Oxford Civic Society.
A report to the committee recommending that the scheme goes ahead said: “The proposed development provides student accommodation in a sustainable and appropriate location that preserves the special character and appearance of the conservation area in which it lies, the setting of St Cross College quad and adjacent listed buildings.”
Victorian Society chairman Peter Howell said: “We object to the proposal to erect a new building on Pusey Street. St Cross College shares the site with Pusey House, which is a building of the highest architectural merit.”
The committee will meet at 6.30pm at the Town Hall.
