Picture 1 A vandalised old school became a hive of village activity. The building in Church View was converted into a new youth centre, where Scouts, Guides and the village youth club met. Villagers raised £4,000 towards the project. Members of the centre management committee are pictured with guests at the opening in 1985.
Picture 2 Firemen visited the village school in 1992 to warn pupils about the dangers of fire – but there was also time for plenty of fun. Hannah Shuker and Nathan Andrews, both nine, were among the pupils given a ride in the Skylift which Jim Poore, left, and Martin Gardner brought along.
Picture 3 Thousands of people packed into the small market square for the annual May Day street fair in 1982, organised by the Pumpkin Club. Attractions included street dancing, a barbecue, non-stop music and a barn dance. The event was opened by Bampton May Queen, Cleo Dryden, nine. Clowns Tony and Jean Adams are seen encouraging people to buy raffle tickets.
