PEOPLE in Bicester have been given a glimpse of the past.
A history and archaeology exhibition was staged at the Methodist Church Hall in Sheep Street.
Among the items on show were a Roman tombstone, artefacts excavated during a recent archaeological dig at the former Bicester Priory Church in Priory Lane, and a rare example of a Roman writing tablet recovered at Langford Village.
The event recently also marked the launch of The Bicester Museum and Heritage Trust Association, which was set up to look at creating a permanent museum in the town.
Secretary of the new association Peter Chivers said: “Considering Bicester looks set to become the second largest town in the county within 20 years then it seems ironic that we have nothing to celebrate our history.
“There are many small villages with them so we would like our own to mark Bicester’s history.”
