A FORMER Oxford police commander has been given control of a major counter terrorism unit.
Brendan O’Dowda has been appointed assistant chief constable (ACC) for the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit and Counter Terrorism Unit.
The new position means ACC O’Dowda will have overall command of the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit and Counter Terrorism Unit functions for five forces – Thames Valley, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey.
He will represent Thames Valley Police and the south east region nationally in matters of organised crime and terrorism and aim to build links with the Association of Chief Police Officers and the National Crime Agency. He has previously been the commander for Oxford City and the Basic Command Unit (BCU) Commander for Oxfordshire.
