HOW important is power, influence and money in the planning process?

I applied for permission to carry out urgent repairs on the roof of my small cottage, now overshadowed by the grotesque new museum in Woodstock.

The sympathetic materials I intended to use were rejected by planners, their requirements doubling cost.

The new museum was objected to by English Heritage, residents, Woodstock and West Oxfordshire councils but was approved by Oxfordshire County Council.

My roof has no visibility from the road but the carbuncle is highly and grotesquely visible over a wide area. Could it be that one of us has power, influence and money?
