I AM forever reading about the dreadful state of the potholes on the London Road in Headington and many other places in and around Oxford and have come to a conclusion.

The problem will never go away as long as we have the hundreds of buses pounding the tarmac on our roads each and every day.

I had a very uncomfortable bus ride from Headington shops to the east side of Barton Estate recently and could see a couple of elderly folk visibly shaken by the experience.

The council keeps repairing the roads and the buses and other heavy traffic rips it back up again – a never-ending, vicious circle.

There must be some logic in this theory as I cannot remember roads being this bad a few years ago when there were a lot fewer buses on our roads.

I cannot see an end to this problem, unless either the council comes up with a very tough road material or the bus companies can come up with a new type of tyre.
