A FORMER mayor of Chipping Norton who served on all three tiers of local councils has died.

Rob Evans, 64, joined Chipping Norton Town Council in the early 1980s and became the town’s mayor in 1995.

He served on Oxfordshire County Council between 1997 and 2005 and West Oxfordshire District Council from 2012.

Last week he received a merit award for his contribution to the Labour Party, signed by party leader Ed Miliband.

Mr Evans died after battling oesophagus and stomach cancer on Sunday.
