SO the Green Party candidate for the Oxford North ward, Sushila Dhall, claims in her election leaflet that the city council, or at least the Labour side, are planning for chain stores to move into the covered market.
The traders say this is misleading. The Labour candidate says the council has a policy of no chains (he got that wrong, Cards Galore?). The Lib-Dem candidate says it is unfair and the Conservative candidate refuses to condemn the leaflet, while Ms Dhall’s agent stands by the leaflet. However, the opinion that really matters is that of the city council, who have yet to comment. The silence is deafening. You know what they say – there is no smoke without fire.
