Picture 1: These children from Mill Lane School helped an injured sailor they had never met in 1976. Friends of Mick McGoldrick, who broke his neck aboard HMS Blake, called at the Crown public house before visiting him in Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
Pub regulars and the schoolchildren held collections to buy him a TV set on a swivel so that he could watch it in bed.
Picture 2: Children from Chinnor CofE Primary School took part in a fancy dress parade at the school fete in 1969. The proceeds went to the school’s swimming pool fund. In the background is Dr Barry Reedy, who judged the fancy dress competitors, all of whom received a prize.
Picture 3: Six schools and activity groups competed in an It’s a Knockout competition in 1979. It was organised by Mill Lane School, whose team came second to St Andrew’s School. In our picture, a member of the Methodist Activity Club team is seen hitting the deck during a pillow fight with Joe White, of St Andrew’s School.
