Picture 1: Parish councillors were so fed up with waiting for Oxfordshire County Council to repair Heritage Lane, they decided to do the work themselves. With their shovels, they filled in potholes and made the surface smooth – and helping them on the way in 1967 was Mrs H Sampson, who supplied them with tea.

The unmade road had not been adopted by the council, hence its inactivity.

Picture 2: Phillip Slatter pushed Donald Saunders over the finishing line to win the village wheelbarrow race for the second year running in 1965.

With compulsory stops at the two village pubs for half pints of ale en route, the race was a test of quick drinking as well as hard pushing.

The winning pair were trailing at one stage, but a late burst saw them home 20 yards ahead of their nearest rivals.

Picture 3: Five women had a surprise in 1965 when children danced before them in costumes they had worn themselves 52 years before.

The costumes found in a cupboard at Tiddy Hall were thought to be jumble sale remnants, but then two names were found inside them.

They dated from the time the village had a thriving folk dance group.

The five women who had worn the costumes, were invited to the hall to see children dance in them. They included Doris Warner, left, and Edith Pratley, pictured with Annalise Niebuhr, left, and Theresa Scully.
