ONE of the extraordinary things about Oxford is that you can walk from Abingdon Road in the south all the way to the ring road in the north, and enjoy almost uninterrupted views of paddock, parkland, commons and farmland on one side or the other.
The proposals at Hill View Farm for a business centre and party venue would reduce the city’s land used for agricultural purposes to a handful of acres, and mark a return to the bad old days of town planning.
Of course we need new kinds of buildings all the time, in particular to support the economy. But there does not seem to be adequate need or economic benefit at Hill View Farm to proceed with further erosion of Oxford’s historic relationship with the countryside.
