Sir – I read with interest in the August edition of Oxfordshire Limited Edition about Richard Wheeler’s book on Oxfordshire churches.
I have long had a passion for churches, how many bells (which I used to love to have a ring at — I miss my ringing dreadfully) age, history etc. He states: “There are no other books in print specifically about Oxfordshire churches.” Unless it is now out of print, I have one by Richard Lethbridge, printed 2000, by the Oxford Historic Churches Trust, listing Burford, Compton Beauchamp, Harwell, Bloxham, Adderbury, Yarnton, Iffley, Dorchester, all of which are in his book — true Radley is not in mine. I am still discovering some other churches — I hope his book sells well, however.
Churches are indeed a great delight, something I always look for when away, not only as a point of interest, but for worship as well. For that is what they were primarily built for. They are all rather lovely in their own way.
