A NEW police officer is on the beat in Oxford to tackle homelessness.

Pc Simon Collins, who has worked in West Oxfordshire and Oxford since his police career started in 2001, is the new homeless liaison officer for the city.

His role will include checking up on homeless people, making sure the law is not broken and liaising with Oxford City Council.

He said: “I am very pleased to have joined the team in an exciting transition phase.

“I am experienced in working with partner agencies and will work with them to help reduce rough sleepers in the city and tackle related anti-social issues.

“The role is a challenging one and I know that it will be rewarding.”
