YOU couldn’t make it up.
The taxpayer, at a time of austerity, is being asked to fund four huge blocks of expensive panels to catch the sun’s energy (Oxford Mail, August 17). And where are they to be placed?
Right on top of, um, huge blocks of free green stuff whose only purpose is to, er, catch the sun’s energy. Why subsidise landowners in depriving so much good land?
Our towns contain much ‘dead’ land. The roofs of public and business park buildings, car parks and so on. Subsidising solar power here would be a gain.
Covering, and killing off, prime agricultural land like this is a sin.
If we really want to farm these prime sites, at least give it all back to nature. She will know what it is for.
