A complaint has been made to the Local Government Ombudsman about Vale of White Horse District Council’s delay in granting permission for a 2,500 home estate.

Dr Leslie Clyne, of Mattock Way, Abingdon, cited the Vale’s housing waiting list as a reason to hurry up and decide on plans for Grove Airfield near Wantage.

In April this year there were 1,175 households on the housing waiting list in significant, urgent or exceptional need.

The Grove Airfield plan was approved in principle more than a decade ago as part of the Vale’s Local Plan up to 2011 but the first outline planning application for the site was only submitted in February last year by developers Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey.

That has not yet been heard by the council’s planning committee.

Dr Clyne told the ombudsman: “I have complained on numerous occasions about the slowness of the process.

“The Vale is 1,010 housing units under target at present on its current house building plan.”

Council chief executive David Buckle said a target date of November has been set for the plans to be considered.
