Sir – Past and present members of St Cross College will, I’m sure, be grateful to John Nandris of Merton for his fulsome praise for St Cross’s proposed new development (Letters, August 15).
Perhaps the opposition who think it “horrid because of its modern design” may be mollified if the roof line, as seen from the outside, can be softened without compromising the inner spaces.
I also take this opportunity to correct errors in Damian Fantato’s earlier article (August 8) in which he refers to the older buildings as “existing 19th century”. In fact all the buildings on the site, including the Chapel, are of 20th-century date, and the Chapel is incorrectly described as “the college’s” — the Chapel belongs exclusively to Pusey House.
