May I suggest that our beautiful Corn Exchange, above, should be utilised in the same way as the very similar hall in Newbury Market Square? Both are in a prime position in the centre of the town.
The Newbury one has a busy, thriving bistro/cafe and small art and craft gallery and incorporates a theatre/ cinema. “John’s cinema” is sorely missed by the many people in Witney who are not interested in the constant diet of American blockbusters shown at the main cinema and, of course, the hall could still be used for public meetings.
There’s certainly enough pavement space to allow for chairs and tables to be put outside in fine weather and to use the Exchange in this way would once more establish it as a profitable and lively central focus for the market square.
