YOUR paper seems to have given a lot of space to Jacob’s Inn (Red Lion is now Jacob’s Inn after makeover for foodies, August 3, above right).

While I wish the new owners success, I must present a counter opinion on new owner Damion Farah’s quote: “We stumbled across this pub. My business partner lives in Wolvercote. The Red Lion has always been a back street boozer and we saw a great opportunity in it. We have brought it back to life and want to make it a destination for food.””

The Red Lion was a welcoming and good value pub serving family-friendly meals of pretty decent food at affordable prices. The Red Lion did a good job of functions and had an excellent annual beer festival.

I’m sure Jacob’s Inn offers something The Red Lion did not – but it is simply outside of many families’ price range.
