I am writing concerning late swimming at Abbey Meadow pool.

What a fine sight it is to see people enjoying Abingdon’s wonderful Abbey Meadow outdoor pool in this wonderful weather. Children of all ages and I include myself, have swum outdoors as often as possible this year.

Local people, visitors on boats and many other visitors to the town have discovered what a great place Abbey Meadow is to enjoy a day out by the River Thames. This is when everyone would agree what a wise decision it was to preserve the pool for present and future generations. Give thanks, smile and enjoy.

So popular was the pool that it was impossible for many to gain admission during the day, so it was great that the operators decided to try evening opening from 6-8pm.

This has been enjoyed by quite a few swimmers and enabled those with season tickets to get the swim they had paid for, so it was much appreciated, despite some initial confusion over when exactly the pool was open late.

We are delighted that the council and the operators, SOLL Leisure, have agreed that the pool will be open this Thursday and Friday evening and on Thursday evenings until the end of the season. This will be weather dependent and details will appear on the SOLL Leisure website at soll-leisure.co.uk/abbey-meadows-outdoor-pool Please join us at the pool on these few evenings to show your appreciation of this wonderful pool and of those who work hard to present it to you. It costs quite a bit to add the extra time. The pool is still free to under 16s. Come along and enjoy the lovely warm water, followed by a hot shower. What a great way to spend an evening in late summer.
