THE TREND for knitting and crochet has taken off in North Oxford, with nimble fingered visitors packing out the Oxford Yarn Store every Wednesday.
The knit club meets today between 10am and noon to practise techniques under the guidance of shop owner, Karen Draisey, and shop assistant James Edwards, pictured left with Kaye Barefield and Mary Clark.
The meetings are informal and the shop plans to add spinning, weaving and felt-making with local artists to its list of activities. Mr Edwards, 42, from Didcot, said: “Anyone can come along, there’s no charge. The knit club is a social group and we also do some knitting on Thursdays.” In May, the Oxford Yarn Store hosted a sheep shearing event outside the shop which saw visitors help spin fleece into knitting wool.
