AS a founder member of Oxford Consumer Group, I was shocked to read that Mr Bob Soden was charged more than £24 by BT to get a phone number from Directory Enquiries.

So I had a look at my new slim-line telephone book to find on the cover “Cell BT 118500.

“You can see what it costs to call at bt118500.com” – whatever that means.

On p. ix, I found “Calls to 118500 cost 199p per min or past there of (sic) plus a 62p connection change”. Well that’s clear, if you can read the tiny print.

On p. x I found “Print Ediciones Informatizadas, SA. www.einsa.com”. Could it be that the directory is printed by some company in Spain?

That might explain why my surname was spelled wrongly in the latest edition.

When I ‘phoned 0800 028 8638 to complain, a man in Chennai, India, told me it was the fault of TalkTalk to whom I’ve paid my telephone bill for the last three and a half years.

It’s about £26 a month including free calls to Europe, America and Australia.

My previous BT bill was about £40 a month.

I suggest everyone boycotts 118500.
