Sir – One might reasonably expect morale among those working within the NHS to be at an all-time low, given the reporting of shocking stats and mismanagement that prevails currently.

A dreadful scenario that certainly needs to be made public. My recent surgery, pre- and post-operative care in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre here in Oxford proves otherwise.

The NOC is, rightly, a world-renowned centre of excellence that cares for huge numbers of patients. Yet I found only sensitive and personal attention, from dedicated and caring individuals — porters, ward orderlies, nurses and doctors, ancillary staff, senior and junior alike.

And every patient with whom I came in contact had only the same impression. The NOC’s work ethic is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the best interests of their patients and it’s hugely impressive.

What a pity that the NHS performing at its very best like this, to the benefit of so many, attracts no media interest. Well done Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. And thank you.
