Sir – In common with most mature adults I have no fear or dread of death.

Dying is another matter and one that is best accomplished with aid. Now, in my 80th year and suffering the painful, debilitating effects of pulmonary fibrosis, in addition to sundry other ailments, I long for the relief that death will bring me but lack the guts or the means to achieve this end.

Is it not in society’s mutual interest to set up a secure, simple process to allow sane, mature adults the benefit of deciding for themselves when enough is enough and providing the means to achieve this end?

I am convinced I am not alone in this point of view and look forward to reading supportive and contrary comments.
